Disclosure: bestomegle.com is published by the team behind Meetmegle and Zoomegle, two of the sites we rank. We score every site on the same published method, and we list their drawbacks too.
App or browser: why it matters
Phone apps are quick to open, but a browser site has real advantages: nothing to install, a bigger screen, a proper webcam and no store permissions to approve. That difference alone is the most common reason people search for Monkey alternatives.
All the sites in our ranking run in a regular browser, and every one of them is 18+.
Why age rules matter
Safety is 30% of every score on this site, and age rules are part of it. Look for a service that states an 18+ requirement up front and backs it with moderation and reporting. Our top two, Meetmegle and Zoomegle, both build the 18+ rule into the product.
Whichever site you use, never share your full name, location, school or workplace, and report anyone who makes you uncomfortable.

Our picks if you are coming from a mobile app
Meetmegle is the easiest switch: open it in your browser, choose a country or interests if you like, and start. It had the fastest matching we measured.
Zoomegle suits you best if safety is the priority. It scored 9.6 out of 10 on safety thanks to 24/7 moderation and reporting, and it asks for a free account.
On mobile you can still use these sites: they open in your phone browser as well, with no install.
